The only thing I was told, few years ago when I mounted mine, is that they have to automatically turn off when you run with high beams on.

On cars, fog lights turn off when high beams are turned on.
I installed Denali lights on my Africa twin; always on at low power for conspicuity with high power triggered by high beam. The lights are mounted on crash bars about fender height (~28″ off ground).
I just aimed them as per Denali instructions. No issues, no oncoming high beam flashes, no second look by any police.
